I'm 61 and I just had 2 strokes!

I'm still in shock that this happened, as I have no obvious risk factors other than being over 60!

What were my symptoms, you ask? The first stroke on Wednesday was on my right side, and I had tingling in my fingers and couldn't write. Then it went up my arm to my jaw, and I couldn't speak (aphasia) for a few minutes. Then I had a floater in my right eye and a sudden sharp headache.

Did I call 911? Nope :-0.

I sat for a bit and the symptoms resolved, so I went about my day.

Then on Friday morning I was on a Zoom call with a friend, and the same thing started happening on my left side! I felt the urge to be by the water, so got off the call and went down to the harbor. I didn't have any problem walking, but when I checked in with my gut, I realized that I did need to go the ER. Two very nice EMTs showed up and confirmed that I was probably having a stroke, and took me to the hospital.

I ended up staying overnight, and had to call my kids and sisters to let them know what was happening. That took a lot of courage, but what helped me the most was knowing that my affairs are in order, if it was to be a fatal event.

Luckily I passed all the movement, speech, and neurological tests, so was able to go home the next evening. I'm still feeling a bit fragile, and have to go get a sleep apnea test done. Yes I'm on baby aspirin and statins now (you might want to keep some baby aspirin around, as that's the first thing they'll do in the ER!) - ugh.
